Why and How to Easily Decorate for Christmas Your Bathroom:

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Should you decorate your bathroom? You betcha! Why? Any additional

décor within the bathroom is a creative unexpected surprise for guests!

What to avoid? Avoid overdoing your bathroom décor with matching sets of Christmas accessories; such as, Santa & reindeer shower curtain, with matching Santa bathroom rug, with matching Santa toilet seat cover, with matching Santa hand towels, with matching Santa tissue dispenser, and matching Santa “toilet tissue” (yes, they do exist!). Go for simplicity by adding touches of your preferred style without overwhelming the room. Now simplicity does not mean you cannot have fun!

Try these 3 holiday decorating ideas:

1. Place a few houses from a Christmas village on your counter. The town in the bathroom would be the one that the villagers would have to take a plane in order to reach it (visit!). If your counter is too small, just place trees or small figurines from the village. Protect the trees or small figurines with a clear jay (you can even use a mayonnaise jar (a clean one of course!!)

2. Flaunt towels. Instead of Christmas decorative towels (e.g. reindeer face which may scare Santa Claus if he needs to use your bathroom!), choose a  plain design with a holiday color such as red. If you do not have red towels consider investing in them because you can always use it for other holidays; such as:

  • Valentines Day
  • Independence Day (red, white, & blue theme)
  • Anniversary (red symbolizing love and passion ….  Hot! Hot!)

3. Upgrade shower curtain hooks. There are varieties of items you can choose to accent your shower curtain hooks, the following will reveal two simple & economical  decorating items that can be easily wrapped around your shower curtain hooks. Great because most likely you already have the décor in your Christmas storage bins so there will be no additional expense to decorate an additional room. Whatever decorative item you decide to use make sure it does not blend with the shower curtain or else guests may not spot your creative decorations. Aim to make the interior design in the bathroom pop (to impress even Santa Claus!).

Here are two simple items (ideas) that you can use to decorate your shower curtain hooks:

1. Wrap small to medium size bows that complement the color of your bathroom or the theme you choose for this year’s Christmas.

2. Tie ornaments (don’t use any fragile ornaments; such as, glass or crystal ornaments).

So, what are you waiting for? Go and transform your bathroom into holiday cheer this holiday. It may just brighten your mornings – wake up and have your heart smile from the creative unexpected décor elements applied in this room.

Make Your Bathroom Look New Without Spending Much

Monday, April 6th, 2009

rn

We spend a lot of time in the bathroom. In most homes you have as many bathrooms as there are bedrooms. When we talk about what is in the bathroom we think about the big stuff like the tub, the shower, and the toilet. We take for granted the small accessories that make up a large part of your bathroom space.

Imagine a bathroom without a soap dish, toothbrush holder, shower curtain, or towel rack. It would be pretty dysfunctional yet we rarely give these items a second thought. Usually we make sure they match in color and that’s about it. If you want to give your bathroom a face lift, considering upgrading these small accessories.

Since we spend a lot of time in the bathroom, we should make it as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. Just like you spend money to have your bedspreads and pillows and curtains match in your bedroom, you should spend the time and money to have good accessories in your bathroom.

The shower curtain is really the biggest thing that you see in a bathroom, but I think that it gets the least attention. Try a fabric shower curtain with a liner instead of your basic plastic kind. It will give your bathroom a touch of class.

An upgrade faucet for your sink may cost you about $50 to $75, but could be the piece that draws all eyes to your bathroom. Everyone who visits will be talking about your new remodeled bath room. It can even make your home more marketable when you try to sell it.

Look around your bathroom and think of other small items that you can change or upgrade. You may find that for a small bit of money you can have a bathroom that looks new.

Pelmet Designs and Curtain Pelmets for Window Treatments

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Pelmets are in vogue and really change the whole appeal of the curtain and give the room and window a distinctive look. There are various pelmet designs that you can pick as curtain pelmets for window treatments. But if we look at the pelmet designs broadly then it can be categorized into stiff pelmet and pelmet valance. The stiff pelmet is made from the pelmet board on which the fabric is pasted so there is no frills or pleats here. But in case of valance pelmets the fabric has the pleats that flows downwards. Although there are now rollers and blinds but both the styles of pelmets are in and used by many.

Curtain pelmets are chiefly used for window treatments but these are also used to stop the excess of light above the curtain head and the light that is coming from the top of the window. You can also dramatize the whole interior with the marvelous curtain pelmets designs.

Curtain Pelmets Designs
In some cases of curtain pelmets for window treatments, the pelmet is used alone without curtains. Here stiff pelmets are used. The pelmet design can vary according to the window. Craftsman can show his or her creativity by giving different carves and angles to the wood.

But  in other case the pelmet board is completely decorated with the curtain fabric and with swags and tails of the same fabric. The number of swags vary and depends upon the size of the window or where the pelmet curtain is being used. Even the frills and pleats are also given. To further decorate the curtain pelmets the lower end of the frills are then embellished with braids, beads or fringes.

Curtain pelmet color can be similar to the color of other textile furnishings like bed covers, cushions, bed sheets etc. The coordinating colors look really good if used properly. More balance should be provided by combining dark and light colors. Even the dark color pelmet can be used to lower the roof if your room has high roof.

Wooden Pelmet Designs
Wooden pelmet designs are made from wood and the length is custom made. The color choice is also based on the selection of the customer. All types of contemporary and traditional wooden pelmet designs can be checked that look very elegant. These have the carving of wood so there is no need of fabric to decorate it further.

Contemporary Pelmet Designs
Contemporary pelmet designs are different from the traditional in prints, bulkiness and type of fabric used. In the contemporary styles the fabric used is generally very light and soft in color with small prints or plain. In this the pelmet is covered either by frills or swags. The swags of the pelmet curtains are mostly sewn so that whenever you need to wash these you can do it easily without damaging the pelmet curtain design and its style. Swags are mostly done for the tall windows to add style and touch of royalty. But there is no hard and fast rule of doing so. You can use swag on any window where you want to do it but make sure that room size should be considerable as with swags in pelmets the room tends to appear small.

Curtain and pelmet designs compliment with each other so must be selected accordingly.

Curtain pelmet design can be made from the carved wood which is the original style of the pelmet. You can use the curtain of different tone. Even the scalloped curtain pelmets are in vogue. You can also consider the molded ceiling cornice pelmet designs as well, which again is a traditional curtain pelmet design. This pelmet does not look individual and looks like a part of the ceiling.

Pelmet designs also involve the used of elaborated upholstery. In most of the formal dining room it is easy to see these pelmet designs having too many curtains, swags and tails. With this type of pelmet design generally the height of the roof is lowered to give room a balance look.

So in this way you can create a beautiful pelmet designs and carry curtain pelmets for window treatments.

4 Decorating Solutions For Your Bathroom’s Brown and Turquoise Tile Floor

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

While colors can date a room, they can also make it look very contemporary. One color combination that has gained tremendously popularity is brown and turquoise. While the color palette may sound modern and bold, it can also be muted and organic depending on how you accent the space. So, consider a bathroom with brown and turquoise floor tile and all of the possibilities that it offers.

There is Brown and then There is Brown
A wonderfully neutral and organic color, brown can be a perfect wall color to showcase this beautiful color combination in the tile. For a larger bathroom you can go with a rich, chocolate brown and accessorize in a lighter brown. Chrome fixtures will repeat the silver in the mirror, or porcelain fixtures could be used to echo the color of the tub. If your bathroom is smaller you may opt for a lighter tone in your brown wall color with a single accent wall in chocolate brown. To pull the turquoise into the room you have the option of picking up the color in your towels and shower curtain, or you can add a fun cabinet or stool to the room and paint it turquoise.

Contrast and Repetition
If you do not necessarily want to showcase the floor, then you can pull these two contrasting colors throughout the room. For example, you may choose to paint a focal wall brown on the upper half and a shiny turquoise on the bottom. Then paint the remaining walls a pale blue with brown stenciling for border designs. You can pull both colors in through towels, shower curtains and accessories. Since these colors are also organic think about using brown branches in a large turquoise vase, brown pebbles in a turquoise bowl or brown and turquoise beads in a glass bowl.

Retro is In
Turquoise is a perfect example of how everything old is new again. While turquoise can offer a very modern aesthetic, it can also illicit a retro vibe when combined with colors like burnt orange, mustard yellow and avocado green. You can tie all of the colors together by selecting a shower curtain or area rug that contains them all. If you have enough counter space you can embellish with retro accessories like a lava lamp. Fun, geometric shapes throughout your accessories including lighting fixtures and wall art will finish off the look.

Accentuate the Warmth
If you are worried about your bathroom not having a warm feel to it, instead of accentuating the cool turquoise tones, you can play off of the earthier brown colors. By pairing a warm red or orange with the brown, you can actually make the turquoise recede into the background. By having natural wood in your window and door frames, you add an organic and warm feel to the room. With soft warm lighting and luxurious warm tones in your towels and rug the room will feel inviting and cozy. Then you can balance the turquoise in the floor tile by adding a small turquoise vase or candle, and your bathroom will be warm, cozy and balanced.
